What's wrong with the Bruins ??

The B's have been a lot less a team than we saw last year with

almost the same line-up - so what gives ? Up until 2 days ago I couldn't quite put my finger on it, I had my suspicions as to what it was but wasn't 100% sure- now I am.

THEY HAVE NO BALLS !

Mark Savard, the teams best player was viciously elbowed in the head on a dirty cheap shot by a player known for doing this to other players in the past. The collective reaction to this from management right on down to the players who were on the ice on that shift was EMBARRASSING ! I don't know if its because some of these guys are locked into some long term contracts and don't feel the need to prove themselves anymore when theres no cash carrot to play for or they have forgotten, from a short year ago, what brought the fans back to Boston hockey....it was a Bruins team that FOUGHT not only with their fists but for pucks and respect and for the guy next to them and when another team or player didn't respect what that spoked B stood for it was dealt with swiftly and harshly.  Not this year.

Here's what should have happened:

Players on that shift:

What happened: Michael Ryder skated "toward" cooke very sheepishly and gave him a bit of a shove, Lucic also approached him and gave him a face smoosh and then both teams came together in what looked like a group hug

What should have happened:  Mark Savard is our Crosby...the entire line should have converged on Cooke and all gloves should have been on the ice. Period.

The rest of the team:

What happened: Cooke was out again on another shift before the game ended and he was not challenged, I have heard the arguments made by the coaches and the players that we wanted to tie up the game "for Savy". Here's my take, there are 2 points on the line sure but so is the reputation of your team and your locker room- you have to stand for something and my theory is the respect you will get across the league will eventually earn you those 2 points back and then some--and who knows, you may just win the game anyway.

What should have happened; The team needs to fight here, period. If you don't have your fighters out there on the shift when the penalty (oops, forgot they didn't even call one) err the cheap shot then the other guys need to step up. The silence is deafening-- are these guys hockey players or Businessmen ?

The Coach

What happened: Claude said some good things but not enough. Part of his job is to lead by example. How many times have you seen a coach flip out behind the bench at the refs or the other teams coach and it gets contagious, the team starts flying around, pumped up and inspired, didn't happen here.

What should have happened; Coach Julien needed to give the Penguins coach an earful over the plexiglass and get a little more emotionally invested. Calm and collected and professional are good traits to have as a coach in the NHL but there are times you need to show some more emotions- even if they may appear to some as  "over the top" or "losing control", it shows the team you care about the players and that goes a long way.

Here's what he said:

"It's pretty obvious that was definitely a dirty hit," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "That's probably the classic blindside hit to the head ... I'm usually reserved in making comments, but definitely the league will take care of it."

NOT GOOD ENOUGH CLAUDE !!

General manager Peter Chiarelli

What happened: Again, like the coach he lacked emotion and passion here. Your best player has been sidelined for an indefinite amount of time during a season where he may be the best hope to get the team into the playoffs. All I heard were textbook "remarks" about how we need to get this stuff out of the league. blah blah blah.....

What should have happened; You very publicly demand that the other player be suspended for at LEAST the amount of time your player is out. SHOW YOUR ANGER, let the league know how you feel and the team will follow suit. Team toughness isn't just a couple more roaring bears on the jumbotron between periods Peter- it has to be the culture of the organization and it starts with you.

VP Neely , where are you ?
